Day 4 – Mahamudra teachings with Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche

Four sessions of teachings about the Great Seal (Skt. Mahamudra) texts by the 3rd Karmapa Rangjung Dorje with Rinpoche in two days – a lot to learn and great inspiration to meditate even more right the same evening.

In Buddhism, meditation means “effortlessly remaining in what is.” This state may be brought about by calming and holding the mind, by realizing compassion and wisdom, or by working with the body’s energy channels and meditating on Buddha forms of light and energy. The most effective method is the constant identification with one’s own Buddha nature which is taught in Diamond Way Buddhism.

The most effective method is the constant identification with one’s own Buddha nature which is taught in the Diamond Way. When the oneness of the seer, what is seen, and the act of seeing is unbroken—during and between the times of meditation—the goal of the Great Seal (skt. Mahamudra) is reached.

Course Impressions

What’s happening onstage is one part  – the world around is another multi-faceted side of the Summer Course!

Day 3 – 8-hour meditation on Diamond Mind

Before Lama Ole left for Dhagpo in France to welcome Gyalwa Karmapa to Europe and accompany him to the EC, he started the first of two 8-hour meditations this year together with Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche.

As an introduction and inspiration for the following meditation session over 8 hours, Rinpoche explained the practice and the 100 syllable mantra of Diamond Mind (Skt. Vajrasattva, Tib. Dorje Sempa). The meditation practice on Diamond Mind purifies karmic imprints left by former harmful thoughts, words and actions in our subconscious. Is the second of the Four Foundational Practices (Tib. Ngöndro), also known as the preliminary practices of the Great Seal (Skt. Mahamudra). They lay the basis for realizing the true nature of mind. Involving many repetitions, they create strong positive imprints, making one unshakeable.

The third day of the course was rounded of with a panel of Diamond Way teachers from Italy, Australia and Russia.

Day 2 – Karma Pakshi Empowerment given by Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche

On the second day of this year’s Summer Course, Maniwa Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche gave an empowerment into a Guru Yoga meditation aspect, the 2nd Karmapa Karma Pakshi and his Mandala.

The life stories of the Karmapas according to traditional account are all full of vivid examples of their mind’s miraculous powers, meditation experiences and encounters with Buddhas. The 2nd Karmapa Karma Pakshi (1204 – 1283) was the first consciously reincarnated Lama of Tibet. Ever since that time, the Karmapas have manifested in a successive line of reincarnations until the present day, always heading the Karma Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism.

Day 1 – Introductory Lecture by Lama Ole Nydahl

On July 27th, many months of planning and five weeks of building up for the start of the Summer Course came to a very happy end.

Lama Ole Nydahl was greeted by thousands of people in the big gompa tent, opening the 23rd International Summer Course, already at the Europe Center for the eighth year now.

We think it is not exaggerated to say that this year’s program is many dreams come true at the same time. To celebrate what we have achieved together, H.H. the 17th Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje, Lama Jigme Rinpoche, Lama Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche and of course Lama Ole will come together at the EC. Gyalwa Karmapa is going to inaugurate the new buildings, give teachings and the first empowerments from the Chik She Kun Drol empowerment cycle. As if that was not more than enough great gifts already, Lama Jigmela, Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche , Lama Ole and Diamond Way teachers are going to give teachings and guide meditations as well.

Welcome home, friends from all over the world – let’s celebrate!

Countdown to the course

Right in time for the course, Lama Ole Nydahl and many friends gave a heartfelt welcome to Maniwa Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche – in the new courtyard of the Europe Center. Lama Ole had spent the morning together with some of our photographers to shoot a new official portrait.

Rinpoche is going to give Mahamudra teachings, guide an 8-hour meditation on Diamond Mind (Skt. Vajrasattva, Tib. Dorje Sempa), and he will give empowerments into the Mandala of the 2nd Karmapa Karma Pakshi and the 1000-armed form of Loving Eyes (Skt. Sahasrabhuja Avalokiteshvara; Tib.
